This quirky detail provided some amusement to the residents. The burglary was discovered by the family upon their return the next morning, prompting the police to initiate an investigation into the matter.

In the morning, the family members of the homeowner arrived to discover the break-in. Inside, the lingering scent of perfume filled the air amidst the chaotic scene from the beds to the wardrobes. Incidents of theft have been on the rise among Medinipur residents, often accompanied by quirky actions by the thieves.

A few months back, there was a surprising incident where thieves not only stole but also indulged in the sweet desserts stored in the fridge, creating amusing anecdotes. Now, their penchant has shifted to perfume.

According to information from family members, the homeowner Swapna Mondal passed away six months ago. His wife, Karunamayee Mondal, continues to reside at home while their daughters are married and their son lives elsewhere. Karunamayee Mondal had gone to Bhubaneswar in Odisha for treatment on Friday due to her illness, leaving the house empty that night.

When the family’s son-in-law, Sanjoy Mondal, arrived in the morning to check on the house, he discovered that all the locks were broken and the interior was in disarray, indicating that a robbery had taken place. The bottles of perfume were open and the scent filled the air, indicating that the thieves had used it on themselves.

The incident is now under investigation at the Kotwali Police Station in Medinipur. The task has been made more difficult by the absence of CCTV cameras in the area.
