Police DIG (South) Jayanarayan Pankaj told the media on Sunday that the deceased Maoist has been identified as the chief of Maoist KKBN division and a DVCM (divisional committee member) Dasru alias Dudu Mundari
One outlawed CPI(Maoist) member was killed on Saturday evening in a gunfight with security forces in Kamberikia forest, that comes under Baliguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district .
According to reports, after acting on a tip-off that some Maoists were camping in the Kamberikia forest, Khandhamal SP Suvendu Kumar Patra formed a joint team of DVF jawans and the police to raid their hideout. When the jawans approached the hideout, the Maoists began firing randomly and one Maoist member was killed in the retaliatory fire by the forces.
Meanwhile, a DVF jawan also sustained bullet injuries on his left hand, following which the remaining Maoists managed to flee the area, while taking advantage of the darkness.
The injured DVF jawan was rushed to the Baliguda Hospital and was later shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.

According to Pankaj, Dasaru’s death in the police firing on Saturday marks a severe blow to the Maoist organization in the region. “Dasaru was involved in the murder of 10 people and had about 22 criminal cases in Kandhamal and Boudh districts to his name,” he said.
